At just 13 years old, Melchizedek Adio Baafawiise has made history as one of the youngest students ever admitted to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana.

While not the first teen prodigy in the world to enter university at such a young age, his journey, from scoring top marks in the WASSCE to pursuing a degree in Physics, inspires young minds across the country and beyond, setting a new standard for academic excellence and ambition.

The physics enthusiast from the Savannah Region, will be studying for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics.

The news has since been viral on social media, trending particularly on X on Saturday, January 25, 2025.

“Melchizedek Adio Baafawiise, a 13-year-old physics enthusiast from the Savanna Region, has become the youngest student in a Ghanaian university, after gaining admission to study for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science. Born on April 2, 2011, Melchizedek scored an impressive 5 As and 3 Bs in the WASSCE Exams and wishes to become a pilot in the near future,” popular blogger Sika Official wrote.

While Melchizedek initially dreamed of becoming a pilot, he later changed his mind, realising that a career in physics would offer him more opportunities for exploration.

“If you understand the basic principles of physics, you can apply it to other fields, such as Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering, and that would give me a solid base to begin,” he explained.

For now, he is undecided between pursuing Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering but is excited to explore these paths further.

Melchizedek has also expressed that he is enjoying his experience at the university so far.

“Well, the interaction has been normal, and it has been good. When I went to SHS, I felt intimidated because of my age, but as time went on, I became used to it. Being here, where people are older than me, doesn’t make much difference,” he added.
