13-year-old Nigerian boy hacks father to death with an axe
The Police Command in Edo State of Nigeria has said it will seek advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions in the case of a 13-year-old boy hacking his 79-year-old father to death with axe.
The sad incident is said to have occurred at Egbin Estate in Evbuotubu, Benin, on Sunday, June 20. The suspect and the deceased were identified as Abubakar and Osariakhi Oronsaye respectively.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Kontongs Bello, noted that the status of the alleged offender as a minor made it imperative for the command to liaise with the DPP, adding that everything would be done to unravel the case, Punch.ng reports.
He told our correspondent, “I can confirm to you that the command is discussing with the DPP over the case. It is an unfortunate case, but we are also conducting our investigation to ensure that we unravel the case. “The suspect is a minor; so, we must be sure of what we are doing on this case.”
It was gathered that Osariakhi had earlier reported his son to the Evbuotubu Police Station a week ago, but pleaded with the police to leave the boy alone.
However, the boy carried out his threat as he allegedly axed his father to death in his sleep in the early hours of Sunday.
Some family members described the incident as tragic. A family member said, “We have not known Abubakar to have a mental problem, but we are shocked by his action.”
