Sports journalist Dan Kwaku Yeboah has argued that former Black Stars captain André “Dede” Ayew has the football experience required to potentially become President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in the future.
Speaking on United Showbiz on UTV on August 22, 2026, Yeboah explained that Ayew’s long career in football has given him valuable experience in dealing with players, administrators and different aspects of the game.
According to Yeboah, the former Ghana captain has been exposed to the administration and management side of football throughout his career. He believes this experience could become an important advantage should Ayew eventually decide to pursue a leadership position within Ghanaian football.
Yeboah’s comments come amid growing public discussion about whether the former Black Stars skipper could one day contest the GFA presidency.
He noted that football administration is not necessarily limited to people who have spent their entire careers working behind desks. According to him, former footballers in several countries have transitioned from playing careers into administrative positions and gone on to lead football associations.
The sports journalist cited examples of former players who eventually became involved in football administration after their playing careers. He also referred to Ghanaian football history, including the career of the late CK Gyamfi, who combined playing and coaching before making a significant contribution to the national team.
Yeboah also mentioned former Croatian footballer Davor Šuker as an example of a former player who later became involved in the administration of football.
Against this background, he believes Ayew’s extensive experience could make him eligible for consideration if he decides to enter football administration.
“He has seen it all, how to manage footballers and administer,” Yeboah said while discussing Ayew’s potential future in football leadership.
However, Yeboah stressed that there is currently no indication that Ayew has decided to contest for the GFA presidency.
The former Black Stars captain remains involved in professional football and, according to Yeboah, his immediate focus is still connected to his playing career. Ayew is currently a free agent after spending the 2025/26 season with Dutch club NAC Breda.
At 36, Ayew has enjoyed a lengthy career at both club and international levels. He has represented clubs in several European and Middle Eastern leagues and has been one of Ghana’s most experienced players for many years.
His international career has also been notable. Ayew has captained the Black Stars and participated in several major tournaments, giving him extensive exposure to international football and the administration surrounding national teams.
His experience as a senior player and captain has also involved working with different generations of Ghanaian footballers, coaches and officials.
While Yeboah believes Ayew could qualify for the GFA presidency if he chooses to pursue the position, the discussion remains hypothetical at this stage. There has been no confirmation that Ayew intends to enter the GFA presidential race.
The debate nevertheless reflects the growing interest in the former captain’s possible future role in Ghanaian football.
If Ayew eventually moves into football administration, his playing experience could provide him with a different perspective on the challenges facing players, clubs and the national teams.
For now, however, Yeboah’s comments have added fuel to discussions about whether one of Ghana’s most experienced footballers could eventually move from the pitch into the boardroom and play a role in shaping the future of Ghanaian football.
