WATCH: Workers Forced to Leap from Building Amid Fire in Lagos

A fire outbreak at the Afriland Building on Broad Street, Lagos Island, on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, forced several workers to make desperate leaps from upper floors to escape the flames. The harrowing incident caused widespread panic as onlookers watched the terrifying scenes unfold.

Video footage of the incident shows individuals jumping from the building’s upper storeys, with some landing safely while others clung to ledges awaiting rescue. The dramatic escape highlights concerns over fire safety measures and emergency preparedness in commercial high-rise buildings in Lagos.

Emergency responders were quick to arrive at the scene, helping to evacuate workers and transporting several injured individuals to nearby hospitals for medical attention. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the structural damage to the building.
