Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Wife Detained in New York Following U.S. Strikes

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been taken into custody at a New York detention center after Maduro was captured during U.S. military strikes in Caracas.
Video footage from Saturday evening shows a handcuffed Maduro emerging from a plane upon arrival at Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York State. He was subsequently escorted to the offices of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The White House shared a video of Maduro at the DEA office on social media, accompanied by the caption: “Perp walked.”
Later, Maduro and Flores were transported via helicopter from a New York heliport to the Metropolitan Detention Center, a federal facility in Brooklyn, where they are currently being held.
The detainment of a sitting Venezuelan president marks an unprecedented development in U.S.-Venezuela relations, intensifying scrutiny of the Maduro administration and raising questions about the legal and diplomatic repercussions.
Authorities have yet to release official statements regarding the charges or the next steps in the case, but the operation highlights the U.S. government’s ongoing focus on Venezuelan political and criminal investigations.
