Unfreeze my assets to pay clients – NAM 1 appeals to govt
Embattled businessman, Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1, is appealing to the government to unfreeze his assets to enable him pay his debts.
The Chief Executive Officer of the defunct gold dealership firm, Menzgold is standing trial for defrauding by false pretence and money laundering after his gold dealership company failed to honour obligations to several thousands of depositors.
His assets and bank accounts have been frozen by the Economic and Organised Crime Office pending trial.
But, this move by the State, NAM 1 said at a press conference in Accra Monday, is making it difficult for him to pay his impatient customers.
“We cannot make any payment when our bank accounts are still frozen. We are on our knees, we are lying prostrate before government” he added..
NAM 1 wants the government to among other things:
- Assist to retrieve monies owed it by other foreign companies.
- Unfreeze his companies and his personal bank account to allow the firm resolve its liabilities immediately.
- Clearly give directions on which regulator has jurisdiction and supervision over Menzgold’s business model.
Menzgold, he says, is an innovative breakthrough that needs to be supported and not fought.
