Tema Oil Refinery Resumes Crude Oil Refining After Years of Inactivity

The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has officially resumed crude oil refining operations after several years of inactivity, signaling a significant development for Ghana’s energy sector.

The restart of operations is expected to boost local fuel production, reduce the nation’s reliance on imported refined petroleum products, and enhance the stability of domestic fuel supply. Authorities have described the revival of the refinery as a crucial step in strengthening Ghana’s industrial capacity and supporting economic growth.

The resumption also comes amid government efforts to revitalize strategic infrastructure and ensure energy security for the country. Officials overseeing the refinery emphasized that continued investment and maintenance will be key to sustaining operations and maximizing the refinery’s output potential.

Industry observers have welcomed the development, noting that a fully operational Tema Oil Refinery could have far-reaching benefits for Ghana’s economy, including job creation, improved energy self-sufficiency, and reduced foreign exchange expenditure on fuel imports.
