Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare is yet to secure a move to a foreign club despite increased interest in his services and efforts by his representatives to find him an opportunity abroad.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper significantly raised his profile following his impressive performances for Ghana, attracting attention from clubs outside the country. However, interest in the experienced shot-stopper has not yet resulted in a completed transfer.
According to reports, one of the major factors affecting a possible move is Asare’s age. At 34, the goalkeeper is considered differently from younger players who can be viewed as longer-term investments by clubs.
Work-permit requirements in some countries have also reportedly complicated negotiations. Foreign clubs interested in signing Asare would need to consider the eligibility and administrative requirements associated with bringing an experienced Ghanaian goalkeeper into their league.
Despite these challenges, Asare’s performances have continued to make him an attractive option for clubs looking for an experienced goalkeeper.
His profile rose considerably after he featured prominently for Ghana during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He entered the tournament with limited expectations but took his opportunity and produced notable performances, including clean sheets against Panama and England.
His displays reportedly generated interest from clubs in Europe, South America and Saudi Arabia. Hertha BSC of Germany, Brazilian side Fortaleza and Swedish club Västerås were among the teams linked with the goalkeeper, although reports indicated that no concrete offer had been submitted at the time.
There has also been reported interest from Saudi Arabia, with Damac among the clubs linked with a possible move. However, Asare and his representatives have reportedly preferred the possibility of a move to Europe.
Another important factor is Asare’s contractual situation at Hearts of Oak. The goalkeeper remains under contract with the Ghana Premier League club until 2027, meaning any foreign club seeking his services would have to reach an agreement with the Phobians.
Hearts of Oak have previously dismissed reports that they had officially placed a specific transfer valuation on Asare. The club said it remained open to considering offers that would serve the interests of both the player and the club.
There have also been transfer rumours involving French club Toulouse, but the club’s sporting director subsequently denied that the Ligue 1 side was interested in signing the Ghanaian goalkeeper.
Asare’s representatives are nevertheless continuing to explore opportunities abroad. His international experience, performances for the Black Stars and years of experience in Ghanaian football remain factors that could attract potential suitors.
For now, the goalkeeper remains with Hearts of Oak as negotiations and enquiries surrounding his future continue. A move abroad would mark another significant stage in Asare’s career, particularly after his rise to prominence on the international stage.
