The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asunafo North, Hon. Joseph Akparibo, has strongly rejected claims that he described the creation of the Ahafo Region as useless.
Hon. Akparibo said the allegation attributed to the Ahafo Regional NPP Communications is completely false and does not reflect his position on the creation of the region.
Speaking on the matter, the MCE stated emphatically: “I have never said that the creation of Ahafo Region is useless.”
He said he was concerned about the attempt to attribute such a statement to him, stressing that he has never made any comment intended to undermine, discredit or denigrate the Ahafo Region and its creation.
According to Hon. Akparibo, the allegation is misleading and has the potential to create unnecessary tension and misunderstanding among residents of the region.
He therefore urged the public to disregard the claim, describing it as false and insisting that it should be treated with the highest contempt it deserves.
“I have never said that the creation of Ahafo Region is useless. The claim is false, and I want to make my position very clear,” he said.
The MCE’s response follows an allegation by the Ahafo Regional NPP Communications, which accused him of making remarks that allegedly sought to denigrate the creation of the Ahafo Region.
Hon. Akparibo, however, has denied the accusation and challenged those behind the claim to produce evidence of where and when he made such a statement.
He maintained that public officials, political actors and communicators have a responsibility to ensure that statements attributed to individuals are accurate and properly contextualised before being put into the public domain.
He further cautioned against the use of unverified claims in political discussions, noting that such allegations could unnecessarily create division and distract attention from the development issues affecting the region.
The Asunafo North MCE reiterated that his position should be judged based on what he has actually said and not on statements attributed to him.
He also called on the media and members of the public to verify information before circulating it, particularly when such information concerns sensitive political and regional matters.
Hon. Akparibo said he remains committed to his responsibilities as MCE for Asunafo North and will continue to focus on issues that affect the municipality and the welfare of its residents.
He therefore urged residents and stakeholders to treat the allegation with caution and not allow what he described as a false claim to create unnecessary division within the Ahafo Region.
