The deal is worth approximately £106 million initially, with add-ons capable of taking the total value to about £123 million. Barcola signed a long-term contract with the Premier League champions and is expected to add pace and creativity to their attack.
Another significant Premier League transfer saw Sandro Tonali leave Newcastle United for Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs paid a reported £92.5 million initially, with potential add-ons taking the total cost to £100 million.
The scale of the spending was reflected in the overall Premier League figures. Clubs in England’s top flight reportedly spent about £3.48 billion on new players during the summer window, surpassing the previous record of £3.19 billion.
