Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has officially joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Shabab on a one-year contract, bringing his spell in Spanish football to an end.
The Saudi club confirmed the signing on Friday, August 21, 2026, with Partey moving to Al-Shabab as a free agent after Villarreal opted not to renew his contract at the end of the 2025/26 season.
The 33-year-old midfielder spent the previous campaign with Villarreal, making 32 appearances for the La Liga club. His contract expired at the end of the season, allowing him to negotiate with other clubs before eventually agreeing to continue his career in Saudi Arabia.
Partey’s move to Al-Shabab represents another significant chapter in a career that has included spells with some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
He made his name at Atlético Madrid, where he developed into an established midfielder under manager Diego Simeone. During his time with the Spanish club, Partey made 188 appearances and helped the team win major honours, including the UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and La Liga.
