A Ghanaian man identified as Kwame Asamoah, reportedly from Dormaa in the Bono Region of Ghana, has been hospitalized in Malta for more than a month as efforts are underway to locate his family.
Kwame Asamoah is said to have been found on the streets of Malta, where he is believed to have been working before his condition led to him being taken to the hospital.
He is currently receiving treatment at Mater Dei Hospital, one of Malta’s major hospitals.
According to information available about his situation, Kwame has been at the hospital for over one month and is currently not using a mobile phone, making it difficult for him to contact relatives or friends who may be searching for him.
Reports indicate that he was initially known to have Italian residency but was later found in Malta.
His current condition has also made communication particularly difficult. Kwame is reportedly unable to speak, but he can hear and understand Twi and French.
The inability to speak has made it challenging for hospital authorities and people trying to assist him to obtain more information about his background and locate his relatives.
Those assisting with the case are therefore appealing to members of the Ghanaian community in Malta, Italy and elsewhere in Europe to help identify and locate his family.
Anyone who knows Kwame Asamoah, has relatives or friends from Dormaa who may know him, or has information that could help establish contact with his family is being encouraged to come forward.
His situation has also highlighted the difficulties faced by migrants who become separated from their families while living or working abroad, particularly when they are unable to communicate or access their personal phones.
The immediate priority is to ensure that Kwame’s relatives are located so they can be informed about his condition and, where possible, provide the necessary family support during his hospitalization.
People with useful information are encouraged to contact the persons or organisations currently assisting with efforts to trace his family in Malta.
The search remains ongoing, and the hope is that the information about Kwame Asamoah will reach someone who knows him or his family in Ghana, Italy or elsewhere.
