Six NPP, Four NDC MPs Among Parliament’s Top Absentees in 2025 First Session

A recent report from the Parliament of Ghana has identified the top 10 MPs with the highest absentee rates during the first session of 2025. Of these, six belong to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), while four are from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The findings have raised concerns about the level of lawmakers’ engagement in parliamentary duties. Analysts note that frequent absences can affect legislative oversight, decision-making, and the ability of MPs to effectively represent their constituents.

Civic organizations and members of the public have called for greater accountability and transparency, urging parliamentary leadership to strengthen attendance monitoring and enforce consequences for habitual absenteeism.

The report serves as a reminder of the importance of active participation in Parliament to ensure that elected officials fulfill their mandates and maintain public trust.
