Security man found dead in galamsey pit
A private Security man has been found dead at a galamsey site in Akanteng, a community in the West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The deceased, identified as that of Tetteh Kodah, 50, was found in an abandoned mining pit filled with water while his locally manufactured single barrel gun was beside him.
The body has been retrieved and deposited at St. Dominic Hospital Morgue by a joint team of police and National Disaster Management Organization, officials according to Addo Kwasi Annor, Municipal Director of NADMO.
The Asamankese Police have commenced investigations into the incident.
Illegal mining has resurfaced strongly in parts of the Eastern Region and also illegal miners operating in parts of the region have taken undue advantage of the coronavirus pandemic, which seems to have swayed attention of the country, to mine with impunity.
The Bunso Water Treatment Plant, for instance, is unable to treat water pumped from the Birim river due to high turbidity of the raw water source, which goes as high as 20000NTU.
