Security Guard Arrested for Impersonating Police Officer at ShattaFest

A 34‑year‑old security guard has been arrested for allegedly posing as a police officer while on duty at ShattaFest, one of Ghana’s major music festivals. The incident has raised concerns about safety and oversight at large public events.

Authorities charged the man with unlawful possession of police equipment and falsely representing himself as a public officer. Reports indicate he was performing duties as a police officer despite having no legal authority, putting festival-goers at potential risk.

The arrest has sparked calls for stricter vetting and monitoring of security personnel assigned to major events. Festival organizers and the public emphasized that trust and safety are paramount, and impersonation of law enforcement is a serious breach of both law and protocol.

Officials have stressed that impersonating a police officer is a grave offence, with potential consequences that can endanger lives during crowded events. The case is currently before the courts as authorities continue to investigate the matter.
