President Mahama Announces Updated Salary Scales for Ghana Armed Forces

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a revised salary structure for personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces, effective March 2026, aimed at improving welfare and recognizing the vital role of the military in national security.

The adjustment comes as part of broader government efforts to motivate and retain skilled servicemen and women, ensuring their compensation reflects the demands and responsibilities of defending the nation’s peace, stability, and territorial integrity.

Officials revealed that the new pay scales were developed following consultations with defence leadership and financial planners, ensuring alignment with broader public sector compensation frameworks. While specific figures were not immediately disclosed, the adjustment is expected to benefit personnel across all ranks.

The announcement has been welcomed by military associations, who hailed the move as timely and necessary amid rising living costs and the need to maintain morale within the armed forces. Observers have also called for continuous review of military compensation to ensure it remains competitive and fair.

The government has confirmed that detailed information on the implementation of the revised salary scales will be shared in the coming weeks, allowing all members of the Ghana Armed Forces to understand the scope and benefits of the changes.
