Police Reject GH¢100,000 Bribe, Arrest Suspects with 209 Slabs of Narcotics

The Ghana Police Service has arrested two men in the Central Region after intercepting a large consignment of suspected narcotics and rejecting an alleged GH¢100,000 bribe offered to secure their release.
The incident occurred during a routine police operation in Agona Swedru, where officers stopped a commercial taxi along the Agona Asafo–Kwesitwukwaa road. The vehicle, with registration number GR 2932-26, was carrying two suspects identified as Godfred Acquah, aged 28, and Awudu Usman, aged 34.
Upon searching the vehicle, police discovered 154 compressed slabs of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances, concealed inside four sacks. The suspects were immediately taken into custody for further investigation.
Following their arrest, police conducted a follow-up operation at Usman’s residence in Asisim, a suburb of Agona Swedru. The search led to the discovery of an additional 55 slabs of the same suspected narcotic substance, bringing the total seizure to 209 slabs.
During the arrest process, the suspects allegedly attempted to bribe the officers with GH¢100,000 in exchange for their freedom. The officers firmly rejected the offer and proceeded with the arrest, in line with police ethics and professional conduct.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court to face charges related to possession, trafficking, and attempted bribery.
Police authorities have praised the officers involved for their integrity and professionalism, describing their actions as a strong demonstration of the service’s commitment to fighting crime, corruption, and drug trafficking.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to identify other possible accomplices and the wider network behind the illegal drug operation.
