Police mourn ex-IGP (PHOTOS)

The late Inspector General of Police (IGP) Felix Peprah Kyei (rtd), who served as the chief of the Ghana Police Service from 27 November 1979 to 6 October 1981, was laid to rest on Saturday, 23 February 2019 in his hometown, Agogo, Ashanti Region.

The funeral was attended by the current IGP, Mr David Asante-Apeatu, and members of the Police Management Board and scores of police officers.

Also at the funeral were retired IGPs Mr Ernest Owusu Poku, Nana Owusu Nsiah, Mr Mohammed Ahmed Alhassan and Dr John Kudalor. Members of the National Association of Retired Officers (NARPO) and Police Wives Association were also present.

Born on 16 January 1940 in Ghana, Mr Kyei was recruited into the Ghana Police Service on 7 July 1965 after graduating from the University of Ghana. He rose through the ranks, serving variously as District Commander, Directing Staff, Staff Officer, Regional Commander and Schedule Officer.

He was appointed IGP by President Dr Hilla Limann on 27 November 1979. He retired voluntarily on 6 October 1981 at the age of 41 but continued to keep ties with the police service, offering his advice, time and service whenever needed.

Mr Kyei died on 30 November 2018.
