Over 70 Lawyers Accompany Dame to CID Over Jakpa Petition

More than 70 lawyers accompanied Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters in Accra after he was invited to respond to a petition filed by businessman Richard Jakpa.
The group of lawyers, dressed formally and in solidarity, joined Dame to show their support as he arrived at the CID office on Friday, October 4, 2025. Videos circulating online show the Attorney General surrounded by a large entourage of lawyers, many of whom are members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) legal team.
The visit follows a petition by Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ongoing Ambulance procurement trial, who alleged that the Attorney General engaged in professional misconduct. Jakpa claimed that Dame attempted to influence his testimony in the case — an accusation the Attorney General has strongly denied.
Dame’s appearance at the CID forms part of the police’s ongoing investigation into Jakpa’s claims. Sources indicate that the lawyers’ massive turnout was meant to demonstrate confidence in the Attorney General’s integrity and to protest what they describe as a politically motivated smear campaign.
Supporters who spoke to the media emphasized that Dame has served Ghana with distinction and should not be intimidated by baseless allegations. “We are here to show that the rule of law must be upheld, and the Attorney General deserves fairness like any other citizen,” one of the lawyers said.
The CID has yet to release an official statement on the progress of the investigation. However, the large turnout of legal professionals has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many debating the political and ethical implications of the incident.
As the case continues, public attention remains fixed on both the Attorney General’s office and the judicial process, as many await the outcome of the CID’s findings and the court proceedings that may follow.
