OSP Explains Its Role in Agyapa and Tema Oil Refinery Transactions

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has provided insight into its intervention in two major state transactions involving the Agyapa royalties deal and arrangements linked to the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

Speaking on the matter, Sammy Darko, Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the OSP, explained that the institution acted within its preventive anti-corruption mandate to assess potential risks associated with the deals. According to him, the OSP identified red flags that required closer scrutiny to protect public resources.

He noted that the intervention helped prevent possible financial losses to the state by prompting further reviews and risk assessments of the transactions. In both cases, the OSP’s actions led to either the suspension or restructuring of the proposed agreements to ensure transparency and accountability.

Sammy Darko emphasized that the OSP’s role goes beyond prosecution, highlighting its responsibility to proactively identify and prevent corruption before it occurs. He added that safeguarding public assets remains a core priority of the institution.

The explanation has renewed public discussion around the importance of oversight in state transactions and the role of anti-corruption institutions in promoting good governance and responsible economic management.
