One killed in clash at Fadama
At least one person has been confirmed dead following clashes between two rival groups in Abeka and Fadama in the Okaikoi North Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The incident reportedly happened near a public toilet which is close to the residence of the Chief Imam at Fadama on Tuesday.
The deceased, according to DAILY GUIDE’s sources, has been identified as Tahiru, a resident of Masuli at Fadama.
Another person only identified as ‘Not Nice,’ who lives at Abeka, is said to be strongly linked to the killing of Tahiru.
No Parade
Owing to the incident, the Municipal Assembly could not hold its Independence Day Parade at the Fadama Cluster of Schools Park due to security concerns.
A statement signed by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Okaikwei North, Boye Laryea said, “The Municipal Security Council finds the venue for the celebrations unsafe, as it is within the same vicinity that the youth groups clashed.”
“We regret any inconvenience this would cause to the general public, especially the people of the Okaikwei North Municipality.”
A group of young men stormed Fadama on Tuesday evening and tried to attack anyone they met in what is believed to be reprisal attacks.
They were on motorcycles and allegedly brandished offensive guns, cutlasses and sticks, and in the process vandalised some shops in the area.
Reports say the youth, who were ‘agitated’ claimed it was an attempt to avenge the death of one of their colleagues who was killed by a supposed opposing faction.
DSP Afia Tenge, the Greater Accra Regional Police PRO, said Tahiru and another person called Yakubu, who is currently at large, engaged in a brawl over Shisha which resulted in Yakubu stabbing Tahiru with a sharp object.
Reports indicated that Tahiru later died at the hospital. Currently, the police are on the heels of 30 suspects incident.
As a result, friends of the deceased moved swiftly to the area to ‘seek revenge’ after the burial.
The activities of the rampaging youth forced many businesses in the area to close abruptly while others stayed indoors.
