The Abia State Government has announced the restoration of accreditation of Abia State Polytechnic, Aba by the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE).
This was announced by the State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Barrister Eze Chikamnayo issued to newsmen in Umuahia on Wednesday.
Recall that the National Board for Technical Education had earlier August 2022, withdrawn the accreditation of Abia Poly, citing the inability of the institution to pay its staff who are overburdened with over 30 months arrears of salaries and allowances.
Fatima Abubakar, spokesperson of NBTE while hinting on the the withdrawal of accreditation for Abia Poly, a spokesperson for NBTE, Ms. Fatima Abubakar, said in a statement that the board acted, “with the utmost sense of responsibility,” in its decision “to withdraw the accreditation status of the polytechnic to safeguard the quality assurance mechanism of the board”.
This grievous development was greeted with expected outrage and sadness by all well-meaning Abians especially in view of the fact that such unprecedented action was made in clear disregard to the welfare and sensibilities of students and Stakeholders of the institution.
However,  the statement by Abia commissioner of Information on the  accreditation by NBTE in Abia polytechnic Aba, stated also that the restoration of the accreditation was propelled by the fact thr welfare of our citizens has always been of utmost concern to his administration beyond all other legalistic consideration
Consequently,  His Excellency,  Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu rose to the occasion propelled by the fact that the welfare of our citizens has always been of utmost concern to his administration beyond all other legalistic consideration.
The Government further reiterated Governor OkezieIkpeazu’s administration avowed commitment to put smiles on the faces of the students and stakeholders of the Abia State Polytechnic Aba.
According to the statement which partly read, “the achievement of this uncommon feat on scheduled time has been made possible not only by the prompt provision of 450 million Naira  by our education loving Governor to bail out the Institution from their self inflicted malaise but by the immediate adoption of far reaching reforms aimed at establishing sustainable growth and best practices moving forward.
“On behalf of all well meaning Abians,  home and abroad and the entire membership of the State Executive Council,  we thank the Governor,  Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu for his exemplary leadership acumen and undeniable contributions to the welfare and development of Abia State Polytechnic Aba”.
