Man, 37, arrested for murder

Lawrence Yire-naa, 37, is in the grip of the Busunya District Police Command for allegedly slashing the neck of a neighbour at Machine-Dorkrom near Yefri in the Nkoranza North District of Bono East Region.

Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday adding that the suspect bolted to an unknown place after the heinous crime but was arrested with the help of the youth in the community.

He explained that on Sunday, March 17, Yire-naa Suglo of Machine-Dorkrom rushed to the Yefri Police Station in the company of the local Assembly Man to report that suspect had allegedly killed Kwame (deceased) whom he (the suspect) was sharing the same yard and had fled to an unknown destination.

He said the wife of complainant awoke at about 2100 hours and saw Kwame, 25, lying on the bench with his neck slashed, adding that the woman informed her husband who visited the scene and proceeded to report to the Police.

Chief Inspector Oppong said the Police went to the scene and saw deceased lying on the bench and a deep cutlass wound on his neck, adding that the corpse had been deposited at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.

He said Police, therefore, mounted a search for the arrest of the suspect, saying on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at about 0900 hours, the youth in the village organised a search party and ultimately arrested the suspect at Nadowli, a village near Machine-Dorkrom.

Chief Inspector Oppong said the cutlass used to kill the deceased was still in suspect’s possession with blood stains on it but is now being kept by the Police for exhibit.

The suspect has been remanded in Police custody to assist investigations, he said.
