Bawku Central Member of Parliament Mahama Ayariga has publicly confirmed that he is married to fellow legislator Millicent Yeboah-Amankwah, bringing an unexpected revelation to the centre of his ministerial vetting in Parliament.
The confirmation came on Thursday, August 27, 2026, when Ayariga appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for his vetting as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.
During the proceedings, First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor took a moment to acknowledge members of Ayariga’s family who were present to support him. After introducing his father-in-law and daughter, Ahiafor turned his attention to a woman seated behind the nominee.
The woman was identified as Millicent Yeboah-Amankwah, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West. Ahiafor introduced her as Ayariga’s wife, officially confirming a relationship that had largely remained outside the public spotlight.

Millicent Yeboah-Amankwah, 34, entered Parliament after winning the Sunyani West constituency in the December 2024 general election. She defeated then-incumbent New Patriotic Party MP Ignatius Baffour-Awuah to become the constituency’s representative in the Ninth Parliament.
Before entering politics, Yeboah-Amankwah reportedly worked in business management and consultancy. She previously served as a branch manager for Verna Mineral Water and later became Managing Director of MEA Connect Consultants.
Her academic background includes studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the University of Law in the United Kingdom. In Parliament, she serves on committees including the Employment, Labour Relations and Pensions Committee.
Ayariga, meanwhile, is a veteran Ghanaian legislator who has held several political positions and previously served as Majority Leader. His current ministerial nomination means he is seeking to move from Parliament into the executive branch of government.
The couple’s relationship had reportedly generated some speculation after they were seen together at public events, although there had been no widely known confirmation of their marital status before the vetting.
Following the revelation, footage of the two MPs attending events together has resurfaced online, including footage from a dinner held in honour of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II in Kumasi earlier in 2026.
The confirmation has consequently become one of the most talked-about moments surrounding Ayariga’s vetting, giving Ghanaians a glimpse into the private life of two politicians who have been working together within Parliament.
