Lumba Funeral Dispute: Parkoso Youth Demand Greater Say in Burial Plans

Tensions have surfaced in Parkoso as youth and community members call for a more significant role in the funeral arrangements of Ghanaian Highlife legend Daddy Lumba. During a recent court session, a group of Parkoso youth staged a demonstration, insisting that the family head, Kofi Owusu, step aside from certain decisions regarding the burial.
The youth argue that their voices have been sidelined in the planning process, especially regarding where and how Lumba’s final rites should be conducted. They claim they want Lumba buried in his hometown of Parkoso, emphasizing the need for the local community’s input in honoring the late musician.
Concerns over the management of funeral funds have also been raised. Reports indicate that GH₵30,000 intended for the funeral was allegedly spent on hotel bills, sparking questions about transparency and accountability among family members managing the arrangements.
Amid the dispute, Papa Shee, a musician and evangelist, has publicly supported Akosua Serwaa, Lumba’s first wife, and criticized other women involved in the extended family, emphasizing that proper respect and protocol should be observed during the burial planning. Papa Shee’s involvement has been highlighted in public discussions about the funeral, though the extent of his role remains a matter of debate.
Community elders are calling for calm, urging all parties to engage in dialogue and resolve differences amicably. They emphasize that the funeral should honor the legacy of Lumba while ensuring peace within the Parkoso community.
The dispute has drawn national attention, reflecting broader issues of family governance, community involvement, and transparency in managing the affairs of prominent figures in Ghanaian society. As the discussions continue, stakeholders hope for a resolution that respects both the wishes of Lumba’s immediate family and the local community that cherishes his legacy.
