LIVESTREAMING: IShowSpeed in Ghana

Popular American YouTuber and internet sensation iShowSpeed has received a warm and historic welcome in Ghana, where a traditional chief honoured him with a Ghanaian name, Obarima Kofi Akuffo, during his visit to the country.

The naming ceremony, which took place in the presence of traditional leaders and community members, symbolised Ghana’s rich cultural heritage and its long-standing tradition of embracing visitors who show genuine interest in the country’s culture. By receiving a Ghanaian name, iShowSpeed was formally welcomed as a friend of the land and recognised as someone with a spiritual and cultural connection to Ghana.

The name “Obarima” translates to brave man or distinguished gentleman, while “Kofi” is traditionally given to a male born on a Friday according to Akan culture. “Akuffo” is a respected Ghanaian family name, often associated with leadership and honour. Together, the name reflects courage, respect, and unity.

iShowSpeed, known for his energetic personality, live streams, and massive global following, has been touring parts of Ghana as part of his African visit. His presence has attracted huge attention from fans, especially young people, many of whom gathered to catch a glimpse of the YouTube star. Videos from his visit have already gone viral on social media, further placing Ghana in the global spotlight.

Traditional leaders at the ceremony praised iShowSpeed for using his platform to showcase African culture to the world. They noted that such visits help reshape global narratives about Africa and encourage tourism, cultural exchange, and economic opportunities.

Visibly excited and grateful, iShowSpeed expressed appreciation for the honour and the love shown to him by Ghanaians. He described the experience as one of the most meaningful moments of his life and promised to continue sharing positive stories about Ghana with his millions of followers worldwide.

Ghana has increasingly become a destination of choice for international celebrities and influencers, especially since the “Year of Return” initiative, which encouraged people of African descent to reconnect with their roots. The honour given to iShowSpeed further highlights Ghana’s reputation as a welcoming and culturally rich nation.
