Legal Action Seeks Removal of Two MPs from GRA Board

A legal challenge has been mounted in court seeking the removal of two Members of Parliament from the board of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), raising questions about eligibility and compliance with Ghana’s governance framework.

The suit, filed by a private Ghanaian citizen and legal practitioner, targets four individuals currently serving on the GRA board. Among them are Francis Xavier Sosu, Member of Parliament for Madina, and Laadi Ayamba, Member of Parliament for Talensi.

According to court documents, the plaintiff is contesting the continued presence of the MPs on the board, arguing that their appointments conflict with existing laws and constitutional provisions governing public office and board memberships. The action requests the court to issue orders removing the affected individuals from their positions on the GRA board.

The case highlights growing public scrutiny over the composition of statutory boards and the separation of powers between the legislature and executive institutions. The Ghana Revenue Authority plays a critical role in domestic revenue mobilization, making governance and accountability within the institution a matter of national interest.

Legal analysts note that the outcome of the case could set an important precedent regarding the appointment of sitting Members of Parliament to boards of state institutions. If the court rules in favour of the plaintiff, it may prompt a broader review of similar appointments across the public sector.

As of the time of filing, the respondents named in the suit had not publicly commented on the matter. The case is expected to proceed through the courts in the coming weeks as arguments are presented and the legal basis for the challenge is examined.

The development adds to ongoing national discussions about transparency, constitutional compliance, and good governance within public institutions.
