Immigration Officer Arrested Over Alleged Transport of 2,600 AK-47 Ammunition to Walewale

Security authorities have arrested an officer of the Ghana Immigration Service in connection with the alleged transportation of a large cache of ammunition intended for Walewale in the North East Region.
The suspect was intercepted during a security operation after officials discovered 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, along with other related accessories, being moved unlawfully. The arrest forms part of intensified national efforts to clamp down on the illegal movement of firearms and ammunition across the country.
Sources indicate that the interception was carried out through coordinated intelligence-led operations aimed at preventing weapons from falling into the wrong hands, particularly in areas considered security-sensitive.
The identity of the officer has not yet been disclosed, as investigations are still ongoing. Security agencies are working to establish the source of the ammunition, its intended recipients, and whether the suspect acted alone or as part of a wider network.
Authorities have assured the public that anyone found complicit in the illegal arms trade, regardless of rank or institution, will be dealt with according to the law. Further updates are expected as investigations progress.
