I regret fighting Manhyia as KMA Mayor – Kojo Bonsu
National Democratic Congress (NDC), flagbearer aspirant, Kojo Bonsu has expressed regret over the misunderstanding that ensued between himself and the Kumasi traditional council, two years ago.
The former Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer came under intense pressure after the Kumasi Traditional Council, made up of all prominent Chiefs in the Asante Kingdom, passed a vote of no confidence in him, calling on the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, to sack him.
The decision followed what the traditional rulers described as insolence on the part of the Kumasi Mayor after he was reported to have questioned the legitimacy of a representative of the Asantehene on the committee overseeing the Kejetia Central Market Redevelopment Project, Nana Agyenim Boateng, who also doubles as the Amoamanhene.
Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa Fm Thursday, Mr. Bonsu said he wished the issues that happened never did happen, most especially as he seeks to be president of Ghana.
“I come from Manhyia, am Sikadwanana. I serve Sikadwa. So if working for the government caused a little misunderstanding, that does not mean that Manhyia has rejected me.
“Otumfour Osei Tutu II is my relative. What happened is something I regret very well. To err is human and with the kind of work, I was doing it was difficult. Working in Kumasi is difficult but you must be strong” he said.
Mr. Bonsu joins the likes of former President Mahama, second deputy speaker of parliament Alban Bagbin for the flagbearership contest on December 7.
