Government Reduces Passport Application Fees by 30%, Effective November 13

The Government of Ghana has announced a 30% reduction in the cost of passport application fees, a move aimed at easing the financial burden on citizens seeking travel documents. The new pricing will officially take effect on Wednesday, November 13, 2025.

With this adjustment, the application fee for a 32-page passport will drop from GH¢500 to GH¢350, while the 48-page booklet will see a similar percentage reduction. The decision forms part of the government’s broader effort to make passport services more affordable and accessible to the public.

Announcing the reduction, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, explained that the move follows extensive consultations and a review of the Fees and Charges Act, which governs government service costs. The ministry emphasised that despite the reduction, the state remains committed to maintaining the same quality, security, and efficiency in passport production.

The minister further noted that Ghana’s passport fees had become relatively higher than those in some neighbouring West African countries, creating a need for adjustment. “This is a people-centered decision designed to ensure that every Ghanaian can acquire a passport without feeling financially pressured,” the minister said.

The new fees will apply across all Passport Application Centres (PACs) nationwide, including both online and in-person applications. The ministry also announced upcoming service improvements, such as faster processing times, more efficient appointment systems, and optional home delivery services to reduce long queues at application centres.

Ghanaians have welcomed the news positively, describing it as a relief amid rising costs of living. Some, however, have called for greater efficiency in the application process to complement the price cut, noting that delays and technical challenges have long frustrated applicants.

In addition to reducing fees, the government says it is working to digitise more aspects of the passport application process under the e-passport system, which aims to meet international standards and enhance security.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged citizens to take advantage of the new rates starting November 13, stressing that the price reduction demonstrates government’s commitment to promoting transparency and accessibility in public service delivery.
