Gospel Singer Grace Ashly Reveals Why She Stopped Supporting the Black Stars

Ghanaian gospel musician Grace Ashly has opened up about why she stopped supporting the national football team, the Black Stars, revealing that former team captain Stephen Appiah played a key role in her decision.

Speaking in a recent interview, the celebrated singer explained that certain actions and leadership choices made by Stephen Appiah during his time with the national team deeply disappointed her. According to her, those experiences affected the love and passion she once had for Ghana’s senior national team.

“Stephen Appiah is why I stopped supporting the Black Stars,” Grace Ashly stated, noting that her decision was not influenced by the team’s performance alone but also by issues of integrity and leadership.

Grace Ashly, who is well known for her gospel hits and earlier songs celebrating the national team, said she once held high hopes for the Black Stars. However, her faith in the team dwindled as she began to feel disconnected from the values and discipline she believed should represent Ghanaian football.

Her revelation has sparked conversations among football lovers and social media users, with some expressing surprise and others empathizing with her sentiments. A section of fans has also defended Stephen Appiah, describing him as one of Ghana’s most respected and disciplined football icons.

Despite her disappointment, Grace Ashly acknowledged the Black Stars’ achievements over the years but urged team managers and players to maintain integrity and transparency in their dealings with supporters.

The singer’s confession sheds light on how deeply national pride and personal values intertwine in Ghanaian football culture — where the actions of a few can influence how millions of fans feel about their beloved team.
