Ghana Police Reject $20,000 Bribe From Alleged Nigerian Cocaine Dealer

Ghanaian police officers have reportedly refused a $20,000 bribe offered by an alleged Nigerian drug trafficker caught with cocaine, reinforcing their commitment to combating corruption and drug-related crime.

The suspect, identified as Charles Adenkule, was intercepted while driving a Jeep with Nigerian registration during a routine police operation. Authorities say he attempted to bribe the officers with cash in exchange for his release and to avoid prosecution.

Rather than accept the offer, the officers refused the bribe and proceeded with the arrest, seizing both the cash and the illegal drugs. Police officials emphasized that the attempt to influence law enforcement underscores the ongoing challenges posed by transnational drug trafficking and organized crime.

“This incident highlights the unwavering commitment of our officers to uphold the law, even when confronted with attempts at bribery,” a police spokesperson said. “We will continue to enforce the rule of law and ensure that justice is served, regardless of the size of the bribe or the nationality of the suspect.”

The case has drawn attention to Ghana’s ongoing efforts to tackle corruption within the criminal justice system while maintaining public trust. Legal proceedings against the suspect are expected to follow, though further details have not yet been released.

Authorities continue to urge the public and law enforcement personnel to remain vigilant and report any attempts to interfere with official duties.
