Ghana Police Officer Calls for Investigation Into Alleged Misconduct at Mataheko and Odorkor Barracks
A Ghanaian police officer, Nicholas Oheneampong Kissi, has called for an urgent investigation into alleged misconduct and other activities at the Mataheko and Odorkor Police Barracks.
Kissi, a General Lance Corporal with Service No. 43818, made the allegations in a video shared on Instagram by Daily View GH, in which he appealed to senior police authorities to investigate what he described as troubling developments at the two locations.
According to the officer, he has information concerning activities involving some personnel and believes the allegations should be properly investigated to establish the truth.
One of the most serious allegations he raised concerns the current Station Officer. Kissi claimed that, based on information available to him, the officer was allegedly supplying ammunition to armed criminals.
He further alleged that the ammunition was intended to facilitate attacks against police officers and civilians.
However, Kissi did not provide direct evidence to substantiate the allegation in the video. Instead, he called for an audit and investigation of the officer and relevant operations to determine whether the information he received was accurate.
He said he had previously raised the matter with the administration and wanted the concerns formally examined.
Kissi stressed that an audit could help establish whether there was any truth to the allegations and determine whether any police personnel had engaged in misconduct.
“I keep on saying it, he should be audited so that we can find the truth in this information given to me,” he said.
The officer also claimed that his decision to speak out about alleged misconduct had resulted in a confrontation with some of his colleagues.
According to Kissi, he was physically confronted by fellow officers, with one allegedly slapping him twice. He further claimed that his skin was scratched and his buttons and shirt were torn during the incident.
The allegations, if established, could raise serious concerns about internal discipline, accountability and the handling of ammunition within the Ghana Police Service.
Kissi is therefore calling on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and other relevant authorities to intervene and conduct a comprehensive investigation into the issues he has raised.
He wants activities at both the Mataheko and Odorkor Police Barracks to be examined, including the conduct of officers and the management of ammunition and other police resources.
The allegations remain claims made by the officer and have not been independently established. The individuals implicated in the accusations would be entitled to respond to the claims and should be presumed innocent unless evidence proves otherwise.
An official investigation could therefore provide an opportunity for the relevant authorities to establish the facts and determine whether any disciplinary or criminal action is warranted.
The officer’s call comes amid broader discussions about accountability and professional conduct within security institutions.
If the allegations are found to have merit, appropriate action could be necessary to protect both police personnel and members of the public. If they are found to be unsubstantiated, an investigation could equally help clear the names of those accused.
For now, Kissi is urging senior police leadership to take his concerns seriously and investigate the situation at the two police locations.
