Father and Son Fined GH¢2,400 Each for Theft and Assault in Ashanti Region

The Asokore-Mampong District Court in the Ashanti Region has convicted a father and his son for stealing, assault, and causing unlawful damage.
Kingsley Kofi Kumi, 54, and his son Kingsley Abeka, 20, were each fined GH¢2,400, with a two-month jail term in default. The court, presided over by Mrs. Hilder Esther Wryter, also ordered them to pay GH¢2,000 in compensation to the victim, Jennifer Sarpong.
The incident occurred at Buokrom Limex Quarry after a disagreement over a fowl. Jennifer accused Abeka of taking her fowl worth GH¢70 without payment. When she attempted to film the exchange with her Samsung Galaxy A22, Kumi seized the phone, smashed it, and joined his son in assaulting her.
Despite pleading not guilty, the court found the evidence—presented by Police Inspector David Opoku Kwabi—credible and ruled that their conduct was deliberate and violent.
In sentencing, the judge stressed that violence and property destruction would not be tolerated, emphasizing the need for peaceful conflict resolution.
The ruling has been widely praised by residents as a fair and necessary deterrent to similar acts of violence.
