Farmer jailed 4 years for stealing 2 rams worth GH¢800

A 23-year-old farmer has been sentenced to four years imprisonment in hard labour by a Circuit Court at Duayaw – Nkwanta in the Tano North District of the Bono Region presided over by His Lordship Alexander Graham for stealing two rams.

Evans Sarpong who has gained notoriety in stealing livestock in the area was found guilty for stealing the two animals valued at GH¢800 according to the prosecutor in the case.

Presenting the facts before the court, Detective Inspector Mawuli Owusu-Agbe revealed that both the complainant and accused persons are farmers residing at Mahuntem cottage and Duayaw — Nkwanta respectively.

That on April 25, 2019 the complainant went to farm and asked a witness in the case to send his rams for grazing.

Just as the witness was about to go, the accused person also emerged and demanded water from the witness to drink.

After giving him the water, the witness sent the rams to a nearby bush and tied them to graze while he returned home but in the afternoon when the witness went to where he had tied the rams to relocate them, they were nowhere to be found.

He informed the complainant who traced the footprints of the rams to Bechem — Techimantia main road where he had an information that the accused was seen with the rams heading towards Dwomo.

The complainant got to Dwomo and was informed the accused joined a taxi cab with the animals to Duayaw-Nkwanta.

He followed up to Duayaw-Nkwanta and with the assistance of the taxi driver located accused and arrested him with the stolen rams and handed him over to the Police.

During the course of investigation, the accused stated that he bought the rams from a certain man he could neither identify no trace.

He was charged with the offence of stealing, found guilty and sentenced accordingly.
