Escaped Ghanaian Inmate Who Mocked UK Police in Viral Video Rearrested in France

A Ghanaian national who escaped custody in the United Kingdom and later appeared in a viral video taunting police has been rearrested in France, bringing an end to a dramatic international manhunt.

The fugitive, identified as Daniel Boakye, had drawn widespread attention after escaping from custody twice within a short period. Boakye, who is also known in music circles as a drill rapper, was serving a prison sentence in the UK at the time of his escape.

Reports indicate that he was initially being held at HMP Feltham and was due to be deported to Ghana upon completion of his sentence. His first escape occurred while he was under guard at a hospital for medical treatment. Although authorities quickly recaptured him, he managed to flee again days later during another hospital visit.

While on the run, Boakye appeared in a widely circulated video in which he seemed to mock British law enforcement, rapping in front of a screen showing news coverage of his escape. The footage quickly went viral, sparking outrage and intensifying efforts to track him down.

Following the second escape, a coordinated search was launched involving the Metropolitan Police and other security agencies. Investigators suspected he had fled the UK and entered mainland Europe, possibly with assistance.

Authorities in France eventually located and arrested him in the Brittany region. His rearrest was confirmed after French police apprehended him, and arrangements are now underway to return him to the UK to face further legal consequences.

Boakye had originally been sentenced for his involvement in robbery-related offences. At the time of his escape, he was nearing the end of his custodial term and was expected to be deported back to Ghana. His dramatic flight from custody and the subsequent viral video brought significant public scrutiny to prison security and cross-border enforcement systems.

With his capture in France, the focus now shifts to legal proceedings and possible additional charges linked to his escape. The case has also highlighted the importance of international cooperation between law enforcement agencies in tracking fugitives across borders.
