Emotional Plea: Nana Agradaa’s Daughter Begs Ghana Court for Mother’s Freedom

A heartfelt plea has been made to a Ghanaian court by the teenage daughter of controversial former fetish priestess turned evangelist, Nana Agradaa, also known as Patricia Asiedua. The emotional appeal, captured in a video widely circulated on social media platform X, sees the young girl tearfully imploring the court to release her mother, citing the devastating impact her detention has had on her entire life and many others.

Nana Agradaa was recently sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour after being found guilty of defrauding by false pretence and charlatanic advertisement. The charges stemmed from her “Sika Gari” or “Sika Futuro” money-doubling scheme, which was broadcast on her television stations. “Sika Futuro” literally translates to “gold dust” in Twi, a term that in this context was associated with a fraudulent scheme promising to multiply money.

In the viral video, Agradaa’s daughter is heard lamenting, “15 years is long, what am I to do?…I need my mom.” She highlighted how her mother’s incarceration has not only created a profound void in her own life but has also deeply impacted numerous individuals who, she claims, were benefiting from her mother’s presence and activities.

While the daughter’s plea has garnered sympathy from some members of the public who advocate for a reduction in the sentence considering her age, it has also sparked mixed reactions. Critics suggest that the emotional appeal might be a calculated move by those close to Agradaa to elicit public sympathy for the jailed evangelist.

The court’s decision to hand down a 15-year sentence came after it was established that Nana Agradaa had used her platform to entice unsuspecting members of the public, promising to double their money. Victims, including many who traveled from various parts of the country, lost significant sums after attending her “all-night services” at her Heaven Way Champion International Ministry, only to find themselves defrauded.

Investigations revealed a carefully orchestrated deception for personal gain. Despite her lawyer’s appeals for leniency, emphasizing her role as a mother of five and her purported remorse and cooperation during the trial, the prosecution argued against it, pointing out that Agradaa was not a first-time offender, having been previously convicted for operating an unlicensed television station and airing deceptive religious content.

As the legal proceedings continue and the public debates the severity of the sentence, the emotional toll on Nana Agradaa’s family, particularly her children, remains a poignant aspect of this high-profile case.
