Electrician Survives Near-Fatal Electric Shock in Accra

An electrician narrowly escaped death on Saturday, October 25, 2025, after receiving a severe electric shock while working on a high-voltage line at Lapaz-Tabora, Accra.

Eyewitnesses report that the electrician came into direct contact with a live power line during routine maintenance. The shock caused him to collapse instantly, prompting bystanders to rush to his aid. Quick intervention by locals helped stabilize him until emergency services arrived.

Paramedics transported the injured worker to a nearby hospital, where he is now reported to be in stable condition. Authorities have commended the prompt response of bystanders, which likely saved his life.

The incident has sparked renewed calls for stricter workplace safety protocols for utility workers across Ghana. Safety advocates emphasize the importance of proper protective equipment, adherence to standard operating procedures, and regular safety training for employees working on live electrical installations.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident and urged all field staff to exercise caution while handling high-voltage equipment.
