Drone Attack Kills Two Soldiers Near Chad–Sudan Border

At least two soldiers have been killed and another seriously injured following a drone attack in eastern Chad, near the country’s border with Sudan, local sources have confirmed. The incident occurred in the border town of Tiné, an area that has increasingly become vulnerable due to regional instability and cross-border tensions.

According to security sources, the drone strike targeted a military position, resulting in the immediate deaths of two personnel. A third soldier sustained critical injuries and was rushed for medical attention. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the victims, but confirmed that they were members of Chad’s security forces deployed to protect the volatile border zone.

The attack underscores growing security challenges in parts of Central and Sahelian Africa, where armed groups have intensified the use of modern warfare tactics, including unmanned aerial vehicles. Analysts note that the increasing deployment of drones by non-state actors is changing the dynamics of conflict in the region, making military installations and patrols more vulnerable.

The Chad–Sudan border has remained tense in recent months due to ongoing conflict in Sudan and the movement of armed groups across porous borders. Security forces in Chad have been on high alert, working to prevent spillover effects from the neighboring crisis, including arms trafficking and militant infiltration.

Local officials have condemned the attack and reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding national sovereignty and protecting military personnel stationed in high-risk areas. Investigations have been launched to determine the origin of the drone and the group responsible for the strike.

Regional security experts warn that such attacks could escalate if coordinated measures are not taken to address the growing threat posed by armed groups using advanced technology. They have called for stronger intelligence sharing, enhanced border surveillance, and regional cooperation to counter emerging security risks.

The drone strike has once again drawn attention to the fragile security situation in border communities, where civilians and security personnel alike face ongoing threats. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm while security operations are intensified in the affected area.

As investigations continue, the Chadian government is expected to provide further updates on the incident and any measures being implemented to prevent similar attacks in the future.
