Driver’s Son Explains What Caused Anthony Joshua’s Road Accident

Fresh details have emerged regarding the road accident involving British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua, with the son of the driver offering insight into what led to the tragic incident.

According to the driver’s son, the accident occurred after Joshua was asked to change seats inside the vehicle shortly before the crash. He explained that the request was made because Joshua’s size was obstructing the driver’s view of the side mirror, making it difficult to drive safely. Joshua reportedly agreed and moved to another seat, while another passenger took his place.

Moments later, the vehicle was involved in a serious crash on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, a highway known for heavy traffic and frequent accidents. The incident resulted in the loss of two passengers, while others sustained injuries. Anthony Joshua survived the crash and was later treated for minor injuries before being discharged.

The driver’s son described the incident as an unfortunate accident, insisting that his father is an experienced and careful driver who had worked with Joshua for years. He noted that his father attempted to control the vehicle after experiencing difficulties, suggesting that mechanical issues may have played a role.

However, authorities investigating the crash have presented a different perspective. Preliminary findings by road safety officials indicated that excessive speed and a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre may have contributed to the accident. Investigators say inquiries are still ongoing to determine the exact cause.

The driver has since appeared in court, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him. His legal team has argued that the incident was beyond his control, pointing to the possibility of brake failure. The case has been adjourned as investigations continue.

The accident has drawn widespread public attention due to Anthony Joshua’s global profile and has reignited discussions about road safety on Nigeria’s major highways. Many have called on authorities to improve road conditions and enforce traffic regulations more strictly to prevent similar tragedies.

Anthony Joshua has not made extensive public comments on the matter, but fans worldwide have expressed relief over his survival while also mourning those who lost their lives in the crash.
