Delays in NHIS claims affecting health care delivery – Private Health Facilities Association declares
The Private Health Facilities Association Ghana says delays in the payment of National Health Insurance NHIS claims by government are affecting health care delivery in the country.
According to the association, their suppliers have refused to supply them drugs due to the huge sums of money they owe them.
They also added most the members are running their facilities with loans as the NHIS has not paid their claims for the past nine months.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Association Mr Francis Fosu said this during the group’s Mid-Year meeting held at the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi on Saturday August 13, 2022.
Speaking to OTEC News Kwame Agyenim Boateng after the meeting, Mr Fosu said although they are still offering service to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), nonpayment of claims is affecting card holders.
‘The owners of private health facilities have not been paid by the NHIA from December 2020 up to now and we cannot continue to provide for unpaid services.’
Mr Francis Fosu , therefore, appealed to the government to as a matter of urgency release monies for the payment of their nine months claims.
Mr Fosu underscored the need for government pay monies owed them to alleviate some challenges that persistently hamper an efficient health delivery system for private health facilities credentialed under the National Health Insurance Authority in the country.
Reacting to calls by the private health providers, the Chief Executive for NHIA, Dr Oke Boye at that same meeting promised to speed up the processes.
