The Ministry of Defence has officially welcomed Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei as the newly appointed Minister for Defence following his assumption of office as the substantive minister responsible for the ministry.
As part of activities marking his first day in office, the ministry organised a formal welcome ceremony for the new minister, including a Guard of Honour mounted in his honour.
The ceremony marked the beginning of Adjei’s tenure and provided an opportunity for officials and staff of the Ministry of Defence to formally receive him.
Following the Guard of Honour, the Defence Minister exchanged pleasantries with management and staff of the ministry. Among the officials who welcomed him were the Chief Director, Mr Emmanuel Kartey, and the Chief of the Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong.
The Service Chiefs were also present at the ceremony as the ministry formally received the new minister.
The engagement allowed Adjei to interact with senior officials and personnel as he began his responsibilities at the ministry. It also provided an opportunity for the new minister to familiarise himself with key members of the defence establishment.
The warm reception underscored the importance of collaboration between the political leadership of the ministry, its administrative structure and the Ghana Armed Forces.
As Defence Minister, Adjei assumes responsibility for providing political and strategic leadership to the Ministry of Defence and working with the military leadership on matters relating to national defence and security.
His first-day activities therefore marked an important step in the transition to his new role.
The presence of the Chief of the Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs further highlighted the importance of cooperation between the ministry’s civilian administration and the military leadership.
The formal ceremony also offered an opportunity for officials to express their readiness to work with the new minister as he begins implementing his mandate.
Adjei is expected to engage with management, military leadership and other stakeholders as he settles into office and familiarises himself with ongoing programmes and priorities within the Ministry of Defence.
