Court Remands Self-Styled Prophet Ebo Noah, Orders Psychiatric Assessment

A self-acclaimed prophet, Evans Eshun, popularly known as Ebo Noah, has been remanded into police custody following his first appearance before an Adenta District Court over a controversial prophecy that caused public concern.
The court ordered that Ebo Noah be held for two weeks and directed that he undergo a psychiatric evaluation at a mental health facility to assess his mental state. The case has been adjourned to January 15, 2026, for further hearing.
Ebo Noah was arrested on December 31, 2025, by the Ghana Police Service’s Special Cyber Vetting Team after complaints were lodged against him for spreading alarming claims on social media. Earlier in the year, he had predicted that a catastrophic global flood would occur on December 25, 2025, warning that only individuals who joined what he described as his “ark” would be spared.
The prophecy sparked fear and confusion among sections of the public, with reports indicating that some people traveled from within and outside Ghana in response to his claims. When the predicted event failed to occur, Ebo Noah later released videos stating that his prayers and fasting had caused God to postpone the disaster, further intensifying public debate.
During proceedings, the court ruled that the accused should remain in custody while investigations continue, citing the need to determine his mental fitness before any further legal steps are taken.
The case has generated widespread reactions nationwide, reigniting discussions about misinformation, public safety, and the responsibilities of religious figures, especially in the age of social media where messages can spread rapidly and influence large audiences.
Authorities have reiterated the importance of ensuring that public communications—particularly those capable of causing fear or panic—are handled responsibly to safeguard public order.
