Couple Arraigned in Accra Over Alleged Rent Scam

An Accra Circuit Court has arraigned a couple accused of defrauding a public servant of GH¢36,000 by falsely promising a rental property that was never available.
According to the prosecution, the couple allegedly convinced the victim to pay substantial sums in advance for an apartment. After receiving the funds, they reportedly failed to provide the accommodation, leading to allegations of rent-related fraud.
During the court session, the charges were formally read to the accused, who were subsequently remanded into custody. Legal teams from both sides are preparing for the preliminary hearings, while authorities emphasize the need for swift action to deter similar scams.
The case has attracted public attention as a cautionary example of how fraudulent schemes can exploit unsuspecting tenants, including public sector workers, highlighting the importance of vigilance in Ghana’s rental market.
