Sean “Diddy” Combs to Serve Shorter Prison Term After Rehab Program Admission

Music mogul and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs will now serve a shorter prison sentence following his acceptance into a federal drug rehabilitation programme, sources say. His participation in the programme has resulted in an adjusted release date, moving it forward by roughly six weeks.

Combs, 56, has been serving a 50‑month sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Dix, New Jersey, after being convicted in July 2025 on federal counts related to transportation to engage in prostitution. He was acquitted of more serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking, leaving the prostitution-related convictions as the basis for his sentence.

In November 2025, Combs was accepted into the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), a competitive federal course for inmates focused on recovery and rehabilitation. Participation in RDAP allows eligible inmates to reduce their sentence if they complete the programme successfully and demonstrate commitment to positive change. Officials confirmed that Combs has been fully engaged in the programme, which contributed to the reduction in his projected time behind bars.

Initially, his release was scheduled for June 4, 2028, but with the rehabilitation credits applied, his new projected release date is April 25, 2028. This adjustment comes after previous modifications to his prison term, which included extensions due to alleged violations of prison rules, such as unauthorized phone calls and possession of homemade alcohol.

Combs’s legal team has also filed an appeal seeking either a reversal of his conviction or further sentence reduction, arguing that not all elements of the case were proven and that the initial sentence was overly harsh. Federal prosecutors have opposed the appeal, leaving the rehabilitation programme as the primary factor shortening his incarceration.

Even with the reduced term, Combs is expected to undergo a period of supervised release and post-prison conditions, as mandated by federal guidelines. The early release reflects both his compliance with rehabilitation requirements and his legal team’s ongoing efforts to mitigate the consequences of his conviction.
