The Ghana Police Service has uncovered a criminal network believed to be responsible for a series of Mobile Money (MoMo) attacks in Nkawie and Fufuso, as well as a robbery incident involving the Berekum Chelsea team bus.
According to police reports, the suspects form part of an organised gang that has been targeting individuals and groups in coordinated attacks, including highway robberies and violent assaults in selected communities.
Investigations indicate that the group operated across multiple locations, focusing on unsuspecting victims, including football teams and ordinary commuters, as part of their criminal activities.
Two suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations, while security agencies are actively pursuing other members of the gang who are still on the run.
The breakthrough comes after intensified police operations following the attack on the Berekum Chelsea team, which sparked widespread concern over the safety of football teams and travellers using major roads.
The police say intelligence-led tracking has been crucial in identifying the suspects and uncovering the structure of the criminal group.
Authorities have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to dismantle the network completely and bring all those involved to justice.
The development has brought some relief to residents in affected areas, particularly amid rising concerns over armed robbery incidents in parts of the Ashanti Region.
Police investigations are still ongoing to establish the full extent of the gang’s operations and possible links to other crimes.
