Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the youngest son of former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, has pleaded guilty to firearm-related and immigration offences in South Africa.
The case stems from a shooting incident earlier this year at a residence in Johannesburg, where a 23-year-old man, reportedly an employee at the property, was shot and injured.
In court, Mugabe admitted to pointing a firearm and also acknowledged that he was staying in South Africa illegally as part of a plea agreement.
His co-accused, Tobias Mugabe Matonhodze, also entered a plea, admitting to more serious charges including attempted murder linked to the same incident.
Authorities say the firearm allegedly used in the shooting has not yet been recovered, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are still ongoing.
Reports indicate that earlier attempts to reach a full plea bargain with prosecutors were unsuccessful before the final court proceedings.
The case has drawn significant public attention in both South Africa and Zimbabwe due to Mugabe’s family background and the severity of the allegations.
The matter has been adjourned as the court prepares for the next stage, which includes sentencing proceedings.
