Ghanaian Afrobeats singer Kelvynboy has called on established musicians in the country to extend greater support to emerging talents, saying such encouragement can significantly help young artistes grow in the industry.
Speaking in an interview, the musician emphasized that many upcoming artistes struggle to break through due to limited opportunities and exposure. According to him, established stars should help promote new talents by collaborating with them, mentoring them, and offering them platforms to showcase their abilities.
Kelvynboy noted that he personally benefited from such support earlier in his career, particularly from Ghanaian dancehall star Stonebwoy. He explained that being associated with Stonebwoy’s brand helped him gain recognition and build his name in the Ghanaian music scene.
“The biggest thing Stonebwoy did for me was allowing me to be associated with his brand,” Kelvynboy said, adding that many of Stonebwoy’s fans also came to support him as a result.
Kelvynboy was previously signed to Burniton Music Group, a record label owned by Stonebwoy. During his time with the label between 2017 and 2019, he gained significant attention and collaborated on several songs with the dancehall artiste before the two eventually parted ways.
Despite their past differences, Kelvynboy has repeatedly acknowledged the role Stonebwoy played in shaping his early career. The “Down Flat” hitmaker said he remains grateful for the opportunity he received and believes similar support should be extended to other upcoming artistes.
He stressed that mentorship and collaboration are key factors that can help strengthen Ghana’s music industry. According to him, when successful musicians help nurture younger talents, it contributes to the overall growth of the entertainment sector.
Kelvynboy further encouraged fans and stakeholders in the music industry to also support new artistes rather than focusing only on already established names. He believes that creating space for new voices will help diversify the industry and allow more talented musicians to succeed.
The singer’s comments come at a time when discussions about mentorship and collaboration in Ghana’s music industry continue to gain attention. Many industry observers believe stronger support systems for young artistes could help Ghanaian music compete more effectively on the international stage.
Kelvynboy concluded by urging established artistes to remember their own beginnings and offer opportunities to the next generation of musicians who are striving to make a name for themselves.
