Ghanaian businessman and Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama, has expressed appreciation to former President Nana Akufo-Addo for his role in supporting the successful Damang Mine transaction.
According to reports, Ibrahim Mahama made the remarks during the official takeover of the Damang Mine concession in Ghana’s Western Region, where Engineers and Planners formally assumed operational control of the asset.
The transition follows the exit of Gold Fields Ghana, which previously managed the Damang Mine for several years. The change in ownership and operation was carried out through a structured process involving government institutions and key stakeholders in the mining sector.
Ibrahim Mahama noted that the support of former President Nana Akufo-Addo helped facilitate discussions that contributed to the smooth completion of the deal. His comments highlighted the importance of government involvement in major economic and industrial transitions, particularly in strategic sectors such as mining.
The Damang Mine takeover marks a significant milestone for Engineers and Planners, a company long known for providing mining support services in Ghana. This development represents a shift toward greater local participation in mine ownership and direct operations within the country’s extractive industry.
The agreement is also seen as part of broader national efforts to increase Ghanaian ownership in the mining sector, ensuring that local companies play a more active role in managing natural resources. Industry observers note that such transitions are closely monitored due to their potential impact on employment, production, and regional development.
During the event, emphasis was placed on continuity of operations and maintaining stability at the mine as the new management takes over. Stakeholders expressed optimism that the transition would support both economic growth and community development in the surrounding areas.
Ibrahim Mahama also indicated that the company intends to focus on long-term value creation, including reinvestment in infrastructure and local development initiatives.
As the Damang Mine enters a new phase under Engineers and Planners, attention is now on how the company will manage operations and contribute to Ghana’s mining sector growth in the coming years.
