The Ghana Police Service has arrested four suspects in connection with a series of robbery incidents in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, following an intelligence-led operation aimed at restoring security in the area.
According to police reports, the suspects are believed to be behind two separate robbery attacks that occurred within a short period. The attacks, carried out by armed individuals, targeted victims along routes within the district, leaving residents alarmed and calling for increased security.
Three of the suspects — Iddrisu Sidibey, Abdulai Bandey, and Suleman Issah Zibrim — are alleged to have attacked a teacher, Thomas Dormatey, on February 28, 2026. The incident reportedly took place between the Gadi and Chogsia communities. During the attack, the victim was shot in the leg and robbed of his mobile phone and an amount of GH¢2,600.
In a similar incident on March 8, 2026, the same group is said to have attacked another victim, Issah Ibrahim, at about 7:30 p.m. while he was returning from Jagluu. He was reportedly robbed of his mobile phone and GH¢2,750 under comparable circumstances.
Police investigations indicate that the suspects operated by hiding in nearby bushes before launching surprise attacks on unsuspecting victims. They were reportedly armed with weapons, which they used to intimidate and overpower those they targeted.
The suspects were arrested at Chogsia following a coordinated police operation. Authorities confirmed that the victims were able to identify the suspects after their arrest. A search conducted during the operation led to the retrieval of items believed to be linked to the robberies, including mobile phones and weapons.
Further investigations led to the arrest of a fourth suspect, Abdul Rahman Abdulai, who is believed to have supplied the firearm used in the attacks. Police also recovered the weapon, which had been hidden in a bush.
However, police say two additional suspects, identified only as Adil and Sambo, remain at large. Efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest them as investigations continue.
The four suspects have since been arraigned before the Wa District Magistrate Court and remanded into custody. They are expected to reappear in court as legal proceedings proceed.
The Upper West Regional Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to maintaining law and order. Authorities have also urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities.
The arrests are seen as a significant step in addressing robbery incidents in the district and restoring a sense of safety among residents who have recently been living in fear due to these attacks.
